  1. Your group excites me very interested in how to get started writing. As early as the age of 12 a teacher told me I had natural writing abilities. Over the years after having children, working, and being consumed by everyday life I never had the chance to hone any of my abilities. Here I am a grandmother of 10 finding time to be creative but at the same time at a loss as to how to get started. On and off I have kept a journal of my daily thoughts that’s about as far as I have gotten. I struggle to know how to choose what to write and in what area. What is the first step to becoming that writer?

  2. Joy,
Thanks for asking us. I think you first need to decide if you want to write fiction or nonfiction and if you want to write short stories or longer works. Do you want to write for your family or for publication? These are some of the choices you will need to decide so you know which direction to head your time and energy. What do you want to write most? Break that down into steps and keep going. I hope this gives you an idea of where to start. Let us know what you decide.

There are many great magazines available like Writer’s Digest and The Writer and local bookstores have books on writing in the reference section which may also help you focus on what to do.

    Enjoy the journey!

    Michelle
